The Updating of Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manual for Tidal Irrigation Networks in DIR Sebakung, DIR Petung, DIR Labangka, DIR Kenangan, DIR Suliliran, and DIR Padang Parapat was conducted to enhance water management efficiency in Penajam Paser Utara and Paser Regencies, East Kalimantan. This project aimed to update and standardize the operational procedures for maintaining the existing irrigation infrastructure in tidal swamp areas.
The assessment covered hydrological and hydraulic analysis, structural evaluations, and operational efficiency studies, revealing that many control gates and irrigation channels were in deteriorated condition. Key improvements recommended include rehabilitating damaged sluice gates, optimizing water distribution systems, and implementing sustainable maintenance strategies to ensure long-term agricultural productivity.
Additionally, this manual integrates climate adaptation strategies, improved drainage management, and optimized water level control mechanisms to support sustainable rice farming and protect against saline water intrusion. With a focus on enhancing farmer participation through P3A (Water User Associations), the project also emphasizes community-based irrigation governance to improve water allocation and maintenance practices.
Status: 100% Completed – Ready for Implementation
